Parameters to assess water quality
- pH is the negative log of the activity of the hydrogen ion in an aqueous solution. pH<7 acidic solution; pH=7 neutral solution; pH>7 alkaline solution
- Carbonate Hardness is a measure of the alkalinity of water caused by the presence of carbonate (CO32-) and bicarbonate (HCO3-) anions.
- Total Hardness is expressed as the sum of the calcium and magnesium ions concentrations of 2–4 mmol/L.
- Density, more precisely, the volumetric mass density, of a substance is its mass per unit volume.
- NO2- ions content
- NO3- ions content The anion is the conjugate base of nitric acid, consisting of one central nitrogen atom surrounded by three identically bonded oxygen atoms in a trigonal planar arrangement.
- O2 content
- Oxygen dissolves in water and is important to the organisms living in the water. In order to assess whether there is enough oxygen in the water body, we can use the Prati Oxygen Index.
